oh. so Eddie Murphy is no longer to host the Oscars, then. instead we have Billy Crystal. again.
to call this a safe choice is an understatement of note. whereas Eddie would have been a wildcard, entertaining host, here we shall go once more with a few hours of abject cronyism (who can forget Crystals' length sympathetic conversation aimed at Rob Reiner during the ceremony at which Billy seemed upset that Rob didn't get nominated for A Few Good Men?) with the odd joke now and then that chances on the idea of being funny or memorable.
rumours are abound that Eddie Murphy was looking for "a way out" within moments of accepting the job. that, you have to assume, is the only plausible reason for Eddie quitting as some show of support of sympathy for the intended show producer Brett Ratner. Ratner 'left', lest we forget, after making a series of bizarre and offensive comments to the press, the likes of which you really wouldn't want to be seen as being sympathetic towards.
as the only clear worthy Oscar winner seen thus far this year is John Lithgow, who must be a certainty for Best Supporting Actor due to his outstanding performance in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, it's probably going to be a year of awards for people "being who they are" rather than any worthy winners, anyway.
good luck Billy, hope you entertain the considerably smaller than usual audience.
be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
