The Stone Roses - Barcelona, 8 & 9 June 2012

hi there

well, after the "secret" show in Warrington, the comeback trail of The Stone Roses leads to Barcelona, with two apparently excellent gigs. thanks to the magic of these "smart phones" some videos are over on that you tube site thing, but in the mean time here are some images.

the set ran for some 90 minutes, 20 of which were taken up by Fools Gold and I Am The Resurrection. nice one of course that their opus has returned, but i am not so sure on Fools Gold as i have yet to hear a decent live version of it. actually, that's not entirely true - Primal Scream fiddle with it a bit on stage and often sound like they could do a decent version, if only they could be bothered!

looking at this one clip online, it at the least looks like less phones are being waved around than usual at concerts in the modern age, but still, come on people - great that someone took this video for me to get a few shots, but wouldn't you rather just enjoy the gig?

yes, that is indeed a flasher, if you are not sure what you are seeing above! the band appear to pay not all that much attention to her in the clip - certainly not as much as the security guard trying to get her to go back down to ground and put her shirt back on!

of all the interviews, comments and reviews on line about the Barcelona gigs not one of them seems to be from anyone actually born and raised in Barcelona. there's one or two from people born in England but now living in Spain, but that's about it. my best guess would be that the entire audience came from England to see, with only the previously mentioned security being in any way Spanish!

as was the case at Warrington, one Liam Gallagher was there on at least the Friday night, in a sort of secluded VIP area but still going bonkers like a regular fan! apparently he took his mate Bonehead with him this time - nice to know he's around somewhere, not heard much of him in the last 15 or so years!

nope, i do not have a bootleg or any sort of recording of the Barcelona gig. i do have a setlist for you, mind :

I Wanna Be Adored
Sally Cinnamon
Mersey Paradise
Ten Storey Love Song
Where Angels Play
Shoot You Down
Waterfall
Fools Gold
Standing Here
She Bangs The Drums
Made of Stone
This Is the One
Love Spreads
I Am The Resurrection

which is just about all one could want from a Stone Roses set, really. one or two comments, interestingly from people not at the gig, suggest that a 90 minute set "short changes" the audience. i beg to differ; quality over quantity any day and i am struggling to see any glaring omissions in what they are doing.

by the way, anyone wishing to, as it were, find Warrington, well you could do worse than search for a blog similar to mine by the name of lost in newfoundland......

be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
