hi everyone
sorry for yet more on this subject, but via the grand social network the Manic Street Preachers have suggested that this "complete" singles box set is not quite as incomplete as originally indicated!
'National Treasures' is to be released 31st October. One format will be a treasure of it's own in the form of a boxset. This includes: 38 re-mastered vinyl finish CD singles (plus B-sides CD1's), a poster, a DVD of all 38 videos plus bonus video content, 7" vinyl of New Art Riot, Suicide Alley, Jackie Collins Existential Question, a lipstick and vanity mirror and a limited number will also contain a 7" of Motown Junk. The boxset is available for pre-order only from the Manics website store.
the bad news with releasing only the b-sides from the 1st CD of every single release is that just about everything from A Design For Life onwards had at least a 2nd CD single, along with in some cases a 7" or cassette single. the Lifeblood era singles even had a DVD, which had two exclusive tracks on.
the "good news" would be that the singles from the first 3 albums, which are somewhat difficult to obtain, were a 1 CD only release, and thus they will be complete. or at least you would assume for now - they might well "edit" their history and remove some of the more controversial moments of their career, and yes i am thinking Patrick Bateman. as no actual tracklisting has come out yet, we are slightly wiser but do not know the full contents.
whereas most of what shall still be missing is stuff i for the most part have, it is still a great shame that they have missed an opportunity to put out an exhaustive, actually complete set. there are some amazing songs that the Manics have just thrown out as b-sides and it is strange that they don't take enough pride in them to release them.
ok, i promise - no more posts on this set until they give us the actual tracks that will feature!
be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
