every now and then one gets taken by surprise at the arrival of a decent, above average debut novel. whereas i would not normally touch a debut novel until i had read the further three or four published works of a writer, i made a happy exception in the case of something called Devils Island by the rather well hyped but nonetheless slightly mysterious Frank de Sales. whereas there's a good deal about him on the interwebnet and countless radio appearances by this writer, his origins are somewhat sketchy.
no matter, this macarbe horror / thriller debut of his is a marvel of dark humour, wit and entertainment. in many respects the book is the personification of post-modernist ideals; as a work it should be considered as the purest deconstruction of existentialism since the latter works of Pynchon.
you can order the novel, and indeed play the fine game inspired by it, by clicking here.
be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
