it's been another somewhat indifferent year for films, has it not? i think there's been a handful of decent ones commented on on this site over the year to date, but few (if any) are all that brilliant.
nonetheless, here's a few on the way that at least look like they could be interesting. There Will Be Blood still looks like it is going to be the next truly outstanding work of cinema, but fingers crossed that at least one of these turns out to be worthwhile!!
BEE MOVIE marks, if nothing else, the welcome return of Jerry Seinfeld to the entertainment world. granted, it is the voice of Jerry which is returning in this animated feature, but as the great one also devised or at least inspired the movie, one can only hope or assume that it has a heavy dose of Seinfelditis with it.
i have never been all that crazy about animated films, but with James around i am beginning to develop an unavoidable appreciation of them!!
there are questions over IRON MAN. it takes the good idea from the Christopher Nolan Batman revision insomuch as it features proper, quality actors - Robert Downey jnr is, after all, one of the finest, if not the finest, actors currently out there at the moment.
that doesn't avoid the fact, though, that this is yet another bloody comic book adaptation. granted, the filmmakers are getting increasingly lazy and just churning out lowest common demoninator box office fare these days, but that does not make it any better. one to kind of have a look at, i suppose.
NATIONAL TREASURE : BOOK OF SECRETS should at the least be some fun, especially going on the wicked trailer for it. much like first film, it seems we get another (ahem) "homage" to The Da Vinci Code, with all the religious elements once again wisely removed to avoid controversy. Nic Cage remains one of those screen presences that you can watch no matter how bad the actual film he is in turns out to be, so this one should easily be worth 2 hours of anyone's life.
be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!
