infinity war

hello once more

well, what else would one do on a roasting hot day, to be sure, than go to the cinema? actually, look you see, i seem to remember some information about a whole load of rubbish films making fortunes at the cinema in America purely by being released in summer months, and people going in and paying just to sit in air conditioned cool ways for a couple of hours, caring not for what they see.

no such curse befalls Avengers : Infinity War, mind you, and if that is the right, correct and proper way to refer to the title. despite fears, suspicions and concerns that they are going to reach saturation point with all these "super hero" films, despite a sense that they seem to just use the same colour by numbers plot for each movie, this was quite honestly superb.

there. the above serves as a quick-ish, spoiler free review for any of you who, for some strange reason, were considering watching the film but bizarrely required my input. and, to be honest, i am going to do my darnedest to ensure the remainder of this post remains spoiler free too.

what makes it so good? perfectly balanced, really. despite being "part one" of a double bill of all this Infinity War business, it can and is all self contained, having a definitive start, beginning and very reasonable end. should you elect to watch no further films, then you do have an ending here if you wish. and sorry yeah, that might be spoiler-ish.

a big concern was that the film intended to throw dozens of characters together and make a coherent story. t this works as they trust their audience. sure, it is an audience what is required to have seen most, if not all, of the previous Avengers films, but as they are all rather good it is likely this happened. none of the many characters in the film felt forced or otherwise wedged in, and all served a purpose.

perhaps the greatest praise is for the relatively "new" character, the "big bad", Thanos. wow. not being much of a reader of the comics i didn't know all that much of him. this is a well defined, brilliantly created character. also, his mission, his purpose, his point and motivation are the same. they have veered from over-complicating things and avoided a simplistic "good vs evil as we say it is" scenario, hitting a very agreeable middle ground.

no, the receipts you so clearly see in these images do not lie. going to the cinema is tres or if you will uber expensive. the "admin charge" of £2.40 is interesting, since it's all automated online booking and you have to print your own tickets. otherwise, 3 x medium cokes, 1 x medium popcorn, 1 x opal fruits (or whatever they are now), 1 x fruit pastilles and 1 x water clocked in at £25.70, on top of the £38.00 for the movie ticket. just as well the film was decent.

yeah, i know, i know, they "have to charge" that much for stuff in order to make a profit. that would not be a problem - honestly - if they were not so harsh with the price of water. £2.75 for a 750ml water is steep, harsh.

also, but of course lots and lots of adverts. yes, with one or two trailers. some of them were interesting. quite heavy handed promoting of Jurassic Shed 5 or 6, i forget how many they have made. and the same old trailer for Solo, reassuringly featuring Lando but no sign of Lobot or that one with the bucket on his head.

much delight greeted the trailer for Venom. this was because the trailer said it is rated "12A", which means children under that age can go and see it with a parent or guardian. William very much wishes to go and see it.

the film, yes. how to word this best. it was so involved and well done that you felt you were being enthralled and captivated by a four hour epic, despite it running for only about half that. no, absolutely not, i don't mean the film drags at all. it very much hits the ground running and does not let up until the end. brilliant.

my one and only frustration with Avengers : Infinity War is that Disney made it and made it so perfectly. how come, exactly, that they can care so much and get it absolutely right with all this Marvel business, yet squander wasteful billions and make an absolute mess of Star Wars? this film was exactly the swashbuckling, thrilling and exciting ride that saw the original Star Wars films so dearly loved. and yet Disney ignored that, after spending so much money to own it, and turned it all into the at best below average Last Jedi instead.

well, then, yes. Avengers : Infinity War  is nothing short of spectacular. witty, funny, emotionally engaging, interesting and above all else enormous fun. that is, surely, precisely what films are supposed to be.

film of the year material? depends if Solo features Lobot or not, i suppose. but certainly a contender. hard to imagine anyone making a more entertaining film than this, but if they do then it is all win.

be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
