each sensation makes a note in my symphony

hello there

this is all, pure and simple, me taking advantage of a reasonably obscure pop culture reference, look you see. and, oh yes, it does indeed feature some images in the greater glory and good of Commodore 64 mode and some carefully edited audio-video thing.

here we are, then. 2021, or if you will to make (much of) what is to follow in this post make sense, 21. perhaps even beyond this year, if you are reading this at some future date. which, in fairness, you would have to be, since i am unsure how you could read it on a previous one.

for quite some time, then, i have speculated about doing something specific for the first calendar date proper of this particular year. many of the events of the year before (2020, for clarity) served as a distraction, believe you me. and yet, here we are.

yes, of course. it is Tommy by The Who (no less) which came to mind when considering the start of this particular year. mindful, of course, that on this album (and those of you familiar with it shall know what is to follow) they did not reference this year as such, but still. let us make things easier (for me) by just referring to it as being the year 21.

it is so that Tommy is referred to in a number of ways. rock opera is the most common, and perhaps the more better accurate, although as pedantic types (you know, tw@ts) will point out it does not follow the traditional structure of an opera "proper". pop opera is another term, as indeed is pot opera. for the sake of simplicity, referring to it (modestly) as the greatest work of art of the twentieth century shall do.

on the off or outside chance that it shall make the slightest bit of difference, then, here is a video i have made from various performances of two quite specific lines from the song 1921. my editing skills at creating these things are, of course, not the greatest, but hopefully it is the gesture what prevails.

regrettably, as those familiar with Tommy shall be all too aware, it is not quite so that the optimism of these lines prevails through the remainder of this song. but, for the sake of positive waves, i encourage you to just embrace the words here for what they are, in isolation, with the really ragged notion that it may have good bearings on the year ahead.

as it happens, i really don't have all that much to add here. this is not the first instance of me being in this position, probably not the final one, and it shall certainly not stop me waffling on around the pictures i have already added.

somewhat fairly obviously, then, i do hope that some form of passing interest entertainment is extracted by my (poorly) edited clip. more so, however, if it inspires you to seek out and listen to the entirety of Tommy, be it the studio recording or any of the live recordings available (with the ones featuring all four original members tending to be the best), well, so much more the better.

even if it was (inexplicably) so that your 2020 happened to be good, let me say that i do wish for your 2021 to be much better than the year before. and, of course, thanks for taking the time to read, look and listen to this.

be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
