well, here we are again, look you see. anniversary celebration time, marking that one instance when i had the good fortune to bear witness to Frankie Goes To Hollywood, live and in the flesh, perform a concert for us, the fans. this was in 1987 on this very day, so yes, indeed it was 35 (thirty five) years ago today.
for those who have missed my frequent (annual) posts on this very subject, indeed i, accompanied by my Uncle Colin, was at the Manchester G Mex on January 10 1987 to see Frankie on their ill-fated, unexpected final tour. they were ably supported by Berlin, who it turned out did indeed do songs other than that one off of Top Gun.
another song off of the concert? sure. i am writing this in early 2020. for 2020 i included Relax from the bootleg recording of the gig that someone kindly passed on. during the last days of 2019, i wrote a post for what will now be this time last year (2021) and showcased the joys of the encore from the gig in the form of Two Tribes.
to round this out, as only seems fit and fair, yes, here you go. from the very same gig (the one i was at, no less!), the third (and sadly final) number one single off of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Power Of Love.
yes, it feels kind of weird writing something now that will presumably only be seen or read by anyone else two years from now. i do indeed wonder if i shall still be around, or even if i shall still be writing on this blog. hopefully yes for both, but maybe that is just me.
the important thing here, dear reader, is that the music of Frankie Goes To Hollywood lives on. may it outlive us all.
be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
