hello there
yes, fellow Frankie fans, i know, look you see. indeed the fabled track is called one september monday, but we are here, it is a sunday, what was i supposed to do? my choices were to alter the title for here or do something else, like quote nightswimming off of REM.
so here we are, then. in september, or September for those of you who really, really like apt and appropriate capital letters. anyway, a new month means a calendar update for those of you who, for some reason, rather prefer to consult whatever calendar i am using instead of just getting one for yourself.
but first, a history of what and why a september is. except there is not a great deal to say, really. the month takes its name off of the latin for seven ("septem"), for it happened to be the seventh month of the year when we had but ten months and then the romans (what have they ever done for us) fiddled with it, making 7 now 9.
considering the fiddling, they should have really changed the name from september to shagtember. this is because september is now the most common month in which someone is born. why? by all means count backwards nine or so months from september, and, well, you can work out what quite a few people did during that christmas day to new year's day week.
the designers of my "retro car" calendar are most certainly and determinedly decidedly down on the idea of changing the name of september to shagtember, going on the choice for this month. as you can see, in the glory of Commodore 64 mode, they have opted to showcase the sexiest of the sexy, the most lodestone of fanny magnets for this month. yes, the 71 Ford Capri. considering how capri is believed to mean either boar or goat i am not 100% certain how it came to be associated with sexual prowess with the ladies, but the car most certainly is.
are there any memorable anniversaries or dates of consequence in September, you ask? why yes, of course. here are some select, or if you will curated, moments for your consideration.
3 - a very happy birthday to Sir Gareth Southgate, defender of the realm, Boro legend and incumbent England football manager.
7 - Paul Simon's Graceland album debuts at number 4 in the UK album chart on this day in 1986. i assisted this a bit, my Dad sent me off on the bus to go and buy it for him a HMV in town.
8 - the first ever episode of Star Trek, introducing the generations to follow to things such as the force and the cylons, is broadcast in the USA on this day in 1966.
10 - Richard Kiel, best and most fondly remembered as Jaws out of James Bond, departed this life on this day in 2014. he was also really, really smart in Cannonball Run II and Happy Gilmore. also, he memorably got absolutely knacked in the nuts off of Clint Eastwood in Pale Rider.
12 - Chaka Demus & Pliers enter the UK singles chart at number 18 with the ballad She Don't Let Nobody on this day in 1993.
15 - frequently celebrated film Up In Smoke was first released on this day (presumably in the USA) in 1978. quite funny in places, it was, to be sure.
18 - Tiffany & Co, America's admirable but ultimately poor, cheap and second rate effort to emulate Fortnum & Mason, opens on this day in 1837.
21 - on this day in 1986 the magnificent Who Wants To Live Forever, by the magnificent Queen and ostensibly from the magnificent soundtrack for the magnificent motion picture Highlander, entered the at the time magnificent but in the present time meaningless rubbish UK singles chart. it debuted at number 28, and i am quietly confident that my purchase of it helped this chart position.
25 - the film Best Seller, starring James Woods and Brian Dennehy, was first released in 1987. i remember this one, it was really good, and well worth having a look for.
28 - and it's a super special happy birthday to the legendary Shindong, one of South Korea's ten best ever singer, dancer type entertainment dudes.
yes, the Winnie The Pooh calendar what is in our kitchen. as you can see, via the medium of Commodore 64 mode, this month it is Piglet what is being showcased. i promise he looks more correctly pink outside of the realm of Commodore 64 mode, but there you go, done now.
well, anyway, i suspect that, or this, is more than enough for you to be getting on with. it is my most earnest of wishes that whatever you have planned for the month, indeed life, ahead, goes truly amazing.
be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
