who is and who isn't
and so we are six years on, look you see. six years to the day, as it happens, since i, my (considerably) better half, two extremely dear friends and a few thousand others witnessed The Stone Roses perform at Heaton Park. yes, i know, i am unworthy of being of such fortune.
but, they built it and we came.
let me not bang on so much about this once again. for those who are interested, however, here is the link to the review, or ranting and raving, what i wrote not long after the day.
i suppose the question now is, and many think this has been answered, whether or not we will see The Stone Roses again. mostly the answer is yes, no, maybe.
the story circulating right now is that Ian Brown has a solo album in the offing, with a suspected release date being before we see the end of 2018. as the man seems to like living it live, no doubt a tour shall follow, if such an album release is true.
i am quite happy to hear this. yes, no, it wasn't The Stone Roses, but Ian Brown's solo career was excellent. or, if you like, mint. and why not. should it be that the band are not going to do any new music beyond All For One and Beautiful Thing, then i have no quarrel at all with Ian going off and doing his own thing. somewhat less pressure than there would be releasing something in the name of The Stone Roses, after all.
also, whereas John and Reni seem quite content to do their own thing, one doesn't see Mani just hanging around at home. there's too much of the extrovert to him to be away from the stage for all that much longer, you would think.
my guess, and please i have no inside knowledge or information whatsoever, is that those waiting for an announcement of the latest end to The Stone Roses are not going to get it. it's likely that they will just leave the door open, getting back together to do whatever as and when it amuses them.
yes, of course my own dream is still alive. that dream is one year they release Christmas With The Stone Roses By The Stone Roses, an album on which they just do some classic Christmas tunes. Quite an easy way to dodge the expectations of an album by them, and a guaranteed stocking filler.
one generation under the same groove.
