and so to another month, then. one that is particularly exciting for fans of facts and figures (and who here among (or amongst if that is more right) us is not, look you see) for it is the final month of the traditionally measured year which is represented by a singular figure. which would be nine (9). 

my suspicion would be that you already know all that you need (or would wish) to know about September as a thing, be it from previous knowledge or any of the posts i have done on the month at any other similar stage of an earlier (rather than later) year. other than that, the lyrics to Nightswimming off of REM has a reference, and that's it covered. so, on to the calendars instead.

that there is indeed the Star Wars calendar what beautifies the kitchen. well, normally we have something or other hung (or draped) over it, obscuring the view for most of the year. but you, in the greater glory and good of Commodore 64 mode, may look at it all you wish, thanks to this image preserving it forever, or until the "internet" fad goes away and it all gets switched off. 

yes that's the Millennium Falcon, the self-styled "fastest hunk of junk in the (unspecified) galaxy" what gets caught a lot, being shot at by some of them TIE Fighter things off of the "evil" Empire. although it is have never been made clear how or why the Empire was somehow worse than the system what was in place. 

is it so that there are any dates which have particularly important (or interesting) things associated with them this month? why, certainly. as ever, i am at pains to stress that you are far better off just looking at dates which are important for you, but since we are here......

1 - on this day in 1984 David Bowie's Tonight album was released. this is a record which is nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe. further reading here. and here. 

1 - straight in at number one in the chart on this day in 1985 was Dancing In The Street by David Bowie and Mick Jagger. quite surprising how long after Live Aid it was released as a single. 

3 - happy birthday to George Biondo out of Steppenwolf, born (to be wild) on this day in 1945.

4 - Google was founded on this day in 1998. mostly the reaction was "well, ok, but why do we need another website what just does what Yahoo does?". unsure if that question has been answered. 

6 - Orgazmo, widely regarded as the best, greatest and most important film of the 1990s, was released on this day in 1997. well, yes, obviously it was released in the 90s.

7 - Guillaume Apollinaire, widely regarded as France' greatest, best and most important poet, playwright and novelist (yes, allowing for a lack of competition for such a prestigious title), got arrested and thrown in prison on this day in 1911 on suspicion of stealing the tiresome Mona Lisa painting. suspicion, you say? well, was it missing? did he have it? 

9 - Burgess Meredith, Mickey out of Rocky and Penguin out of (proper) Batman, passed away on this day in 1997. 

10 - on this day in 1967 the (very) wise people of Gibraltar voted to remain as a British dependency and not be merged into Spain. considering just how many areas of Spain wish not to be in Spain, why is it that they every thought someone would wish to join? 

12 - Desmond Llewellyn, known to over a billion people (at least) as Q out of James Bond, was born this day in 1914. sadly he passed away in 1999, but still it would be appropriate to celebrate him and his life today by using a missile firing pen, a car ejector seat or similar. 

15 - it was on this day in 1830 that the first ever death by train British MP William Huskisson died during something of a demonstration of the fabled Rocket, ostensibly intended to travel between Manchester and Liverpool. more here. also, on this day in 1935, Germany unveiled a shiny new flag, but the less said about that the better, perhaps.......

17 - the UK singles chart for this day in 1995 shows that The Heart's Filthy Lesson by David Bowie sold enough copies to be in the chart at 35, whereas Boombastic off of Shaggy sold so many copies that it went straight in at number one. 

18 - happy birthday to that Mark Shuttleworth bloke, the first (known) South African to go into space, and did something or other with computer languages to earn a modest fortune. nice one fella.

19 - a new series of On The Buses commenced broadcast on this day in 1971. many regard this as the best, greatest and most important series of the whole franchise, or expanded universe. to be perfectly honest (as ever) i don't believe i've ever watched a single episode so i would have no idea. 

21 - sex and drugs and rock and roll time, for today is Liam Gallagher's birthday, born this very day in 1972. i am sure he will get some nice cards and have a lovely ca(o)ke. 

24 - the superb film Three Days Of The Condor, starring Robert Redford (who has profited rather nicely due in part to looking remarkably similar to me) was released on this day in 1975. one of those trivia facts which tickles my humour abilities is that the film was based on a novel called Six Days Of The Condor. anyway, if you've not seen (or read) it, highly recommended. 

25 - the 'Treaty of York' was signed on this day in 1237 (which is a while ago). it set an agreed common border between England and Scotland, and it may well be worth retrieving that particular document, just in case. 

27 - legendary publisher Hugh Hefner passed away on this day in 2017. yes, indeed, in my imagination i have sometimes thought about how awesome it would have been to have his life. 

29 - a distinct double to round things off, with Matt and Luke Goss, 66% of the classic Bros line up, being born on this day in 1968. for younger readers unaware of who they are, i suppose they were a bit like the Jedward of their day, but with a little less critical acclaim. 

for the record, yes, indeed i am aware that, on Radio 2, Steve Wright, the unassuming, modest chap best known for Steve Wright presents Steve Wright's The Big Show, part of Steve Wright In The Afternoon, a Steve Wright show hosted by Steve Wright, sometimes highlights the same things in a month om his show that i do here. i have every confidence that this is just incidental, or a coincidence. 

yes, of course, here for the enthusiastic about such (and who is not), here's the boss (splendid) calendar from New Zealand off of Mum and Dad for September (2020). 

a quite magnificent picture of a most splendid structure (or building) one would find in the Bay of Plenty. 

right, well, with the foundation in place, time to get on with the month. i suppose.
