a second overture to a day of release, definitely maybe

as promised in this post, yes, there shall be a "day of release" post for the album Serge Out Of Kasabian, which apparently is better known as The S.L.P., look you see. but that shall only appear ten or so days from now, being the 19th of September, for aesthetic and scheduling reasons. 

but, for those interested - and quite a few of you appear to have read the above linked one - a gander at the chart position. this would, i imagine, be of some interest either to those who also went and bought it on the day of release or during the week thereafter. some might have guilt about not buying it and fear that they have assisted in robbing Serge of a classy chart placing. 

here is the album chart, then. one that is only slightly corrupt, as opposed to the absolute corrupt pointless mess that they have made of the singles chart. 

seven, or seventh heaven, then. just narrowly blocked from the prestigious and sought after sixth position in the top ten albums by a record which was released as recently as 25 years ago. 

reasons for the position? a lack of promotion, perhaps, and also some failed promotion, for the lead single ("download stream that dropped"), Favourites, is a horrendous mess, the worst thing on the record and no way represents the album. some may also have suspected, expected or assumed that a Serge out of Kasabian solo album would be a "Spinal Tap too far" for them and their money. 

in terms of a similar (but by no means exact same) target audience, well, during the year both Ian Brown and Morrissey, also perhaps more fondly associated with audiences for their work in bands, managed to reach 4 in the album chart. but, with the exception of Eric Clapton, guitarists out of bands tend not to have as successful a solo career as other members. see sales figures for the likes of Keith Richards, Bernard Butler, John Squire, etc. 

the only other thing i can say right now is in regards of the "album" at number two in the charts, well, collaborations is a fascinating, interesting and specific choice of name for a record by someone who seems to spend a good deal of time "managing" plagiarism accusations, charges and court cases.
