when James met Ariella

well, the second outing of today was just as much fun as the first one, only less bouncy castles and not as much jumping!

my dear friend Shaun is over in our part of the world visiting from Denver, and happily has brought the whole family along. this meant that James got to meet the lovely Ariella! here they are sat with a rather class dancing lion, and indeed sings The Lion Sleeps Tonight as it dances away!

ahem, they did not immediately sit and enjoy the lion performance together, it has to be said. there was a little bit of "i am holding it", "no, i am holding it", "NO I AM HOLDING IT", "MINE", "MINE", "MINE" before they were persuaded to stop running around chasing each other and to just enjoy it together!!

did they hit it off together straight away? well, kind of yes. i think it is true of all children of this age, but from experience i can only say with certainty that James gets somewhat wary of new people at first, until he sees that Mama and Dada are friends of them and then generally he takes a shine to them. it took a matter of minutes for them to start playing together, so there you go.

Shaun and I are particularly delighted that they are getting on, because we are both of a mind that a class unification of our families would be no bad thing at all, so should James and Ariella get married (to each other) one day, nice one!! it also helps that James really took a shine to Ariella's Mum (and of course Shaun's dear wife) Stacey - no bad thing getting in the mother's good books, believe me.

sadly, the pictures of Stacey I took need some cleaning up, as invariably they feature James and Ariella either running around in a blur in the background, or either or both of them "dive bombing" her. Michele did, however, kindly get some good pics of me and Shaun. here's one of them, if you have an interest - believe it or not, in some 16 or so years of knowing each other, this is the first pic i can remember of the two of us being taken!!

much like Ariella, Shaun & I pretty much hit it off as friends from the start. on the first day of University, we walked straight into each other going around a corner. Shaun was wearing a class The Stone Roses Fools Gold t-shirt, i was wearing a class The Stone Roses Made Of Stone t-shirt. it was clear from the start that we spoke the same language and saw the world the same way. over the years, there has only ever been one area of disagreement - the Madchester revolutionaries that are the Happy Mondays. i think Shaun Ryder, Bez and co are astonishing, magnificent and brilliant; Shaun prefers that we never ever discuss them as his dislike of them just upsets me.

a rather eventful Saturday, in particular when compared to the usual lazy day we would normally opt to take! hope you all had a good weekend!!!!

be excellent to each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
